When people ask me about different song titles I get blank, when people ask about different voice actors form anime series I love I get blank, thing is my memory does not work that way, and ooohhh how it annoyes some people :)

But sometimes I wish I could remember some things in my life, lets say such as the absolutely first anime I ever saw, first time ever I felt in love…and it was a anime girl :)

I will not go into trying to give you a review of Kimagura Orange Road, since there basically is a whole cult out there loving it most likely at least as much as I do. What I will do though is to talk about the memory of Kimagura Orange Road and the feeling it left with me all these years.

I was around 10 years old when I first time ever got to watch an anime, not that I understood it was an anime except that it was Japanese. My father had been buying up a large amount of Japanese and Hong Kong movies from a friend that closed his Video renting shop back then. There where four or five episodes of the TV anime that started on April 6 1987. Thinking back now I am pretty sure it was a TV recorded cartoon with added text afterwords.

What I remember from back then is that I reacted to the carton like it would have been real life going on in front of me, it was simply so different to the western type of cartoons and even movies that I was used to ( and we watched a lot of movies when I was a kid, my dad was a movie freak :D ). I can still feel how I felt an attraction to the girls that poor Kasuga got involved with, just like he himself felt attracted as well. It felt like observing a life of my own and yet not mine.

Along with other anime that my father bought that day I was introduced to the world of Anime and I am still as stuck with it as I was as a kid. I am a grown up man in my early thirties and I still laugh out loud, I still cry like mad and I still get angry and shout when I watch my anime. Because that is what Kimagure Orange Road gave me, a passion for anime so strong that I simply need to have it around me.

I thank thee Izumi Matsumoto for writing it and I thank thee Weekly Shōnen Jump for serialized, but mostly I thank Studio Pierrot for making it into an anime.

Swedish translation is a good laugh: “Orange Road – Superfamiljen” which in English translates to: “Orange Road – The Super Family”

  2. Hehehe, that IS a funny translation indeed, but then again, Swedish translations are usually a bit wacky :)
