Pop Culture from Japan
Since I was about 10 years old, around end of 1988, I have been bombarded with cartoons from Japan. It took about five to six years before I realised that I had been looking at Anime all that time. Anime became a portal to Japan for me. Through Anime I got in contact with Japanese Pop Culture giving me Music, Art, Nendoroids, history and a love for understanding the Japanese mentality.
There is plenty of source for Japanese Pop Culture on the internet, and there is plenty of sources for understanding the mentality of Japanese People if you only search and are open minded to how to find such understanding and in what form it might come.
Japanese Pop Culture
If anyone out there are interested in lets say dolls, Nendoroids, Dolfies and so on, or lets say about ANYTHING that has to do with Japan and Japanese Pop Culture, then they simply know this name: Danny Choo. This man moved to Japan from London several years ago, after fighting to break free from the everyday mondane comfortable feelings most of us live in. He hunted his dream down like a Prey with no chance of getting away. He wanted to live and work in japan, and what better work then to work with his dream stuff. He is a doll collector, a Dancing Stormtrooper and the producer/Show Host of Culture Japan. Now Culture Japan is not only about Japanese Pop Culture, it takes up everything from food, history, Cultural events and much more from all over japan. Simply put, Culture Japan lets people outside Japan to get a glimpse of what Japan truly is, a Multitude of brimming and sparkling Culture that has something for everyone, on top of it all it shows the Japanese Mentality, a peek into how Japanese people function in general.
This is what Danny ahs to say about Culture Japan:
Culture Japan is the TV show that brings Japanese Culture to the world! Tis broadcast on Tokyo MX TV in Japan and across the world on various terrestrial and online networks.
Not only do I cover Japanese Pop Culture, I also introduce more of the traditional Japan too. Prepare for a menu of Otaku, Anime, Traditional, Food, Travel, Fashion and Technology.
But why do I do all of this? This is why.
Culture Japan is directed, presented and edited by Danny Choo – read more about his shenanigans in his profile page.
Anime
For those of you out there that do not care for the continuing production of Anime, go to your YouTube or your torrent sites and download your anime, just keep in mind that the less money that the Anime companies are getting in, less Anime is being produced!
I watch my anime more or less solely through crunchyroll.com since they are a legal streaming anime company that are working WITH the Anime Production teams. That way i know that I am doing my part to help the Anime Industry out so they can keep up making great Anime ( Gief more Anime Movies though like Akira thank you
Or Laputa castle in the sky or Tottoro my neighbor
).
Now for those of you out there that like to keep a track of what you have watched ( I have tried several times but realised that there is NO use, and besides I do not care if other people know EXACTLY every single episode of anime that I have been watching
), then there is a better way then simply writing text files ( Can not understand why anyone would want to do that..).
If you for some reason are not sure what you want to watch next you can always head over to one of the biggest databases over anime that have, are and will be existing on this world:
Nendoroid Life
Now, up until a month or so I would have laughed at the thought of getting my self a couple of nendoroids or even dolfies, no matter what type of anime/manga/game they where based on. That was untill i got my self my first 5 nendoroids daughters ( As Danny Choo would have called them
). For me they are collectibles, it does not need that I want to start cross dressing as a anime/manga character, but they are rather cute ( pretty fast on gathering dust so I guess that sooner or later I will have to fix a nice casing for them that i easy to clean as well).
Now a word of caution for those out there that are thinking of starting to collect any type of dolls from Japan: There are a LOT of fakes out there. An easy way of not getting fakes is simply to buy your dolls directly from the manufacturer or from proven Anti Fake loving resellers that are working directly with the manufacturers. Companies such as Good Smile Company are great to start with. There dolls are simply great, no other word can explain the share detail these guys are putting into there creations. I would use J-list.com for starters to get the dolls and from there branch out slowly, but be careful, a lot of resellers are selling fakes without even realising it themselves since they simple lack the knowledge to see what is fake and what is not.
